Direction

This blog needs a direction. A purpose.  A life..

What you write about reflects what your thoughts, the kind of life you are living. If you blabber, does that mean that your life has no directional either?

Maybe.  Maybe not.  But such is life.  Ess muss sein.  You don't want to stay in one position all the time.  You are striving for peace.  On the road r towards achieving it.

Diwali: The necessary evil

The festive season is on its way out. As much as I hate to admit, I enjoyed it! The colours, the lights, conveniently looking the other way from the pollution- both noise and air.

But I am here to bicker

I don't quite get what joy people get from bursting crackers.  I mean come on.. you can't just blow up a lakh on a ladi. You know what I mean. I think the income tax officers should have a tie up with the crackers suppliers!

And then not to mention the turmoil in the tummy after all the festivities. Every chachi and mami stuffs you with laddoos and chaklis. It doesn't help that i am a gujju married to a panju.. so I get my share of fafda and chorafadi, followed by all sorts of mithai. There goes my diet plan. And it definitely doesn't help that its the first diwali after wedding!

Having cribbed, I am sure I would miss every bit of this drama had this not been there!  Oh I so love the the conflict.  It is this conflict that makes diwali the necessary evil!

P.S. I gifted the Mr. gym membership for diwai. And the rangoli is a peacock. Don't you dare call it a duck.

Type of writers

I think there are two type of writers: those who are good and can write irrespective of whether they are happy or sad and then there are those who write when they are sad. I think I belong to the latter category. And I am happy right now.

So I shall stop now.

Corporate Trust

We had this marathon session in office today where the topic of discussion was trust. Now I fail to understand the concept of trust in office. Do I trust my colleagues to do their work? Maybe yes. Do I trust my colleague to go out for a drink? If yes, I would say they are my friends. Is it good to have friends in office? Now I would say I have opened Pandora's box!

I have seen so many relationships in the workplace moving from friendship to a romantic one and then to that of bitter hatred. What's the role of trust in such situations?  Irrelevant.

Is trust permanent?  I doubt if that's the case even in other non official relationships. So what's the fuss about?

Phew.. all questions.  No answers. Good lunch though ;)

P.S. My husband used to work in my office earlier. So what.. ;)

Sunday brunch @Cafe Mysore

Idlis for breakfast is just ideal for mumbai climate. Parathas are too heavy, while dosa way too light. And if that idli is of Cafe Mysore, coupled with King's Coffee, then that becomes the perfect Sunday breakfast.

That's what happened today. Just that along with the idli, we also devoured mysore sada dosa and onion uttapam.. yumm

Cafe Mysore has been at Matunga east ( also close to matunga police station, next to sion police station and walking distance from Kings Circle) since forever that I remember. Even today,  it stands its own against all the new age cafes propping up at every corner. Well, they don't know how to brew the King's Coffee.

Meow

I don't mean to sound catty, but I hate cats. There is something about them that makes me feel under attack. Even my mother in law does not give me such looks.

And this link: How much do cats kill? does second my thoughts. I hate cats. And i hate cats because they scare me. Moral of the story, You start hating what scares you. Interesting conclusion that may be extrapolated to other arenas of life!

P.S.: Do not let the cat get the better of you..

Saturday Life

It is Saturday. I made a commitment to myself: blog everyday.

I spent about an hour making the blog page look "friendly". I am not sure I achieved what I wanted to. But then a little birdie told me content is more important than just looks.

So here I am.. generating some content.

Saturday evening, sunset from my window and a glass of wine. Not bad eh?
Coming back to content, I was wondering what constitutes it? Kitsch? Perhaps.

Let me write about what I am experiencing while currently reading Under The Dome by Stephen King. I wouldn't say its King at his best. He was much better in Shining. However, it is on this novel that a television series is based.

The book is about a town being trapped under what they call a Dome: transparent, yet so strong that even a US missile can not destroy. Now I saw the television series first and can not wait till the next season comes out to know more about why the Dome. So I pick up the book and boom! I realise how the series has messed with my imagination. King has developed the characters beautifully. However, I can not get over what I have seen in the series and that is so so limiting! It feels as if the series has built a fence ut around my imagination and I feel trapped! I can see greener pastures beyond but I cannot go there. I am trapped Under the Dome!

A word of advise, if you intend to read a book on which a movie or television series is based, please read the book first so as not to sour your experience!

Es Muss Sein?

I recently read Milan Kundera's novel "The Unbearable Lightness of Being". That is where I was introduced to this concept. "It must be".

It stems from one of Beethovan's composition. It means if it must be, well, then it must be! And this is true in every facet of our life, is it not? Well, it must be.

This concept has strong philosophical roots. It connects to Friedrich Nietzsche's theory of Eternal Return.

And is it not true? This theory holds true even in fashion! What was in fashion in the 70's and 80's is all coming back in trend today. It is the theory of eternal return. And in a very obscure way, it somewhere means - what goes around, comes around. Well, it must be!

It might be contradictory to the theory of "Free Will". But well, I never quite believed in it. There is no free will. It is a capitalist way of believing that they are doing something - or they have achieved something. But well, alas! that is not true. But all the same - it must be!

What have i been blabbering above is again meaningless, yet profound.

Those who did read "The Unbearable Lightness of Being", i think they changed for life. However, I am sure there are those who thought it was a piece of shit.Well, again, it must be!
